Okay, So I decided I was going to dress as a fae, but then decided against it as my mom is going as an old wisened fae, so I didn't want to step on her toes.....So I decided I am going as a Sylph....Kinda fae like, but without the wongs, and with horns, but cute little curly Q horns, not like big "eat your head" horns....So I am wearing all red and black and matching and mixing patterns and reds to get just the right mischevious look and let me tell you, it's hard work....I am making my own hair accessories and jewelry, accept earrings which I have to get at Starlit Skies (little plug)....
My hubby, Eric, is also going as a horned beast, a semi-deamon, a half devil, whatever you want to call it and I like the idea that we are going as the "horny couple".....He'll be the one on the leash and I'll be the one running all over the place...Can't wait, and I'm so excited...I love the alternative dress, but any good ideas on what NOT to do?
So here we are gearing up for the upcoming renfaire season at Scarborough and I can't wait...We have new garb pieces, weekends selected, time off from work, and now the dreaded "where to stay" is upon us....I don't mind hotels, but I have the hardest time finding the right one for my brood, which will be about 20 people on one weekend alone....Any suggestions on good hotels in the Waxahachie area for that many people? KOA's? backyards, empty swimming pools? I know, I get frazzled and I dread the hotel reservation process and the fear of not having what we need at the price we need...
Anyway, aside from this one thing that brings me to the point of pulling my hair out, my whole brood is so excited....My little ones are just about to fly from the sheer joy and thrill of going back to Scarborough and seeing the sights, meeting the people, eating the food, and experiencing something that most of their friends could only dream about....My 4 year old and 7 year old, both girls, are so excited about seeing Twig the faerie and Noobler the tinker gnome again....My sons, both teens, are looking forward to the joust, trying to make Sholo the Nubian smile and, they won't admit it, but the "babes"....And for all of us adults, just the experience of being with a larger more extended family that accepts us for who we are....
Personally, I think everyone should experience renfaire at leat once in their lives so they can say that they experienced life in someone elses shoes in a different time....

I am the fair maiden, the supermom, and the old wisened woman in my world.
I have been looking for myself for a long time and I'm not really sure if I have found myself yet, but I enjoy the search and I am finding new things about myself everyday...
I love the Faire atmosphere, because like myself, it is an atmosphere of personal search, growth, and acceptance...
